About the Book
My photographs from Oaxaca, Mexico, explore the streets, markets, and festivals in the City of Oaxaca and the villages nearby. While my intent is to be simply an observer, I am inevitably drawn in, engulfed in the action, and unwittingly a player in the scene.

This project started with a workshop with Mary Ellen Mark in Oaxaca in 2004. The authenticity of the place and ease of working there has drawn me back. Many of the photographs were taken in 2007 when I went back for another workshop in February and a trip for Dia de Muertos in the fall.

About the Book
Artists are an eclectic bunch. They work in a myriad of environments designed by fate or compulsion to allow their creative impulses to find a tangible state. Each artist discovers their own way to balance the need for expression with the physical constraints of circumstance, developing a distinct style of work in parallel with the evolution of a unique environment for working. My photographs explore the artist’s studio, sampling bits of emerging art amid brushes, palettes, keepsakes, and clutter.
