My photographs in Oaxaca explore the streets, markets, and festivals. While my intent is to be simply an observer, I’m inevitably drawn in, engulfed in the action, unwittingly a player in the scene. A glance; I’m noticed. A smile, a greeting; I’m not invisible. It would be so much easier if I were. I’m shy. I don’t speak their language. But invisible I’d miss the rewards that go beyond making images. I’d miss the warmth of being there and feeling accepted.
